    Abstract

"Business Maine: Midcoast & Down East" piece reporting that Montville residents recently voted to approve an ordinance that bans genetically modified crops from being grown there. The ordinance requires farmers to phase out genetically modified crops with two years. The vote marks the first time a town outside of California has banned genetically engineered crops, according to the nonprofit Food for Maine's Future. Two other Maine towns, Brooklin and Liberty, have passed nonbinding resolutions declaring themselves to be "GE-free zones."
