Abstract
"Focus on Greater Bangor Region" piece on how, in the wake of a lawsuit, former workmates Donald Lewis, owner of Nyle Corp. in Brewer, and Duane Hallowell, founder of Hallowell International LLC in Bangor, are competing to produce a best-selling low-temperature heat pump. The lawsuit, settled out of court, was over whether Hallowell infringed on a patent held by Lewis. Heat pumps draw warmth from outside air, water, or ground and circulate it indoors, but have not been reliable below 32 degrees Fahrenheit; which is why such a product could be a gold mine in northern climates. Hallowell's heat pump, the Acadia, is already on back order.
