Abstract

“Focus Real Estate/Construction/Design” piece on Michael Bosse, chairman of the Construction Law Practice Group at Bernstein Shur in Portland, including an edited transcript of his thoughts on the future of the construction industry. Among the trends in construction that Bosse discusses are sustainability and the increasing importance of LEED-certified projects, the growth in hospital construction, and the regionalization of the industry. Construction lawyers have an important role in all these processes. He talks about the benefits of upfront contract negotiation and planning over litigation, which is costly in terms of both time and money, the evolving challenges of record-keeping and data privacy, and the need to understand the regulations in different states.
