McKernan's assertion that Maine businesses are being hurt by New Brunswick's sales tax on purchases made out of the province does not take other factors into account. Maher said the current exchange rate on the dollar is keeping Canadians from buying in the U.S., and that Canadian businesses have become more competitive as a result of cross-border shopping.
