Abstract

Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) is seeking Public Utilities Commission approval to lower electricty bills for customers who use more power and raise rates for those who use less electricity. The current rate structure charges residential users more for each additional unit over a baseline 400 kwh a month, and is designed to discourage electric growth that could result in the need to construct new power plants. CMP's proposal to change the existing rate structure essentially questions whether existing energy polices are valid. Details.
