Abstract

Dr. Owen Pickus, a Portland AIDS specialist who helped Harvey Prager avoid a prison term for marijuana smuggling, has questioned whether Prager fulfilled the terms of his alternative sentence, which required that he care for terminally ill AIDS patients until his probation expires in October. The recent controversy surrounding Prager centers on his being chosen to serve as a law clerk to Justice Howard Dana Jr. of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
