Abstract
Town officials in Wells are struggling against nature in an effort to restore the beach at Drakes Island. Mats made of plastic strips were installed in October in an attempt to trap sand and preserve the beach, but the homemade dune was washed out twice this week. A new proposal would see the installation of 50 to 100 huge sandbags, each eight feet long and weighing three ton when full.
