Abstract

Initial estimates for the renovation of Portland's three middle schools--Lincoln, King, and Moore--have come in about $2 million above the expectations of city and school officials. In May, voters approved a $14.83 million referendum to finance the project. The estimate prepared by the project architect projects costs at $17 million. City Manager Robert Ganley notes that school officials will have the difficult task of choosing between necessary structural renovations and those designed to improve the learning environment.
