Abstract

The nonprofit Global Action Plan of Greater Portland is running a three-year pilot project called the Eco-Team Program, which seeks to have 7,000 households in the Portland area join eco-teams of four to six households that meet to figure out ways to recycle, reduce waste, conserve energy and save money and resources. The Portland Global Action is a local chapter of a national group located in Woodstock, N.Y., and believes that if the 7,000 households enact 70 percent of the program's suggestions some $5.7 million can be saved in annual energy costs.
