Unemployment in Maine increased from 7.8 percent to 8.1 percent in November, as compared to a national rate of 6.4 percent for the month. Economists interpreted the jump as reflecting a decrease in self-employment, which is a sign of improving conditions. The State Planning Office projects the creation of 10,000 jobs this year.
