Abstract

In a deal negotiated by the Nature Conservancy and individual landowners, federal Superfund money will go towards the purchase of 247 acres of the Saco Heath. The cleanup of the Saco Tannery waste pits, which are located two miles from the land, will result in the destruction of 10 acres of wetland, and since those wetlands could not be reclaimed the existing wetlands will be preserved.
