Abstract

The Portland Planning Board last night unanimously endorsed a plan to prohibit vehicles from most of Deering Oaks and ban parking on all of the roads in the 50-acre public park. The proposals would reduce stress on the park's trees and discourage cruising by gay men, but some Parkside neighborhood residents are concerned about the impact on the parking situation. The city council will probably vote on the matter in March. Details.
