Abstract
The Portland Planning Board last night decided that the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum can use 8 1/2-foot ties when it lays 3,400 feet of track along the base of the Eastern Promenade from India Street to Fish Point. The city originally required the use of 5-foot ties in order to leave more space between the railroad and a proposed walking trail, but changed its position because the Maine Department of Transportation wants to leave open the possibility that freight trains might use the ties someday.
