Abstract

The Committee to Study the Maine State Retirement System yesterday approved the conclusions of of its 4-1/2-month study that recommends that members of the Maine State Retirment System hired after 1983 be allowed to opt for a Social Security System-based system under which they could take accumulated benefits with them to jobs outside state service -- The Social Security-based system would also provide cost-of-living increases, better benefits for lower paid workers, and tax-free benefits -- Gov John McKernan's legislative director says the plan would cost too much -- Details
