Many companies have instituted polices under which they give out very little reference information on present or former employees, usually out of fear of litigation over bad or unfair references -- The Labor and Employment Law Section of the Maine Bar Association is developing a statute that would shield employers from all but the most malicious reference statements, but until that becomes law employers face legal exposure -- Details
