Six Portland residents have taken out nomination papers for the city council, including an individual appealing a conviction for growing marijuana and a man arrested in November on a charge of possessing illegal gambling equipment -- Mark S Hider was arrested in September 1992 for cultivating marijuana, while Elliott S Nathanson, owner of Town Taxi, had illegal gambling equipment seized in November -- The other candidates are Robert A Griffin, Michael A Keever, John Connors and William R Umbel
