Abstract

Because of declining enrollments, the University of Southern Maine's budget is $650,000 in the red -- Enrollments decreased in the fall semester from 10,007 in 1992 to 9,522 in the fall of 1993 In the spring semester enrollments fell from 9,411 in 1993 to 8,863 this semester -- The spring decline was three times what university officials had expected -- No class cancellations, layoffs, or staff reductions are planned to deal with the situation
