Abstract

Figures released recently by the state Bureau of Taxation show that urban homeowners continue to pay the highest property taxes in Maine, due in part to the amount of services exported to surrounding communities -- The state's largest cities have full value tax rates of around $20 per $1,000 of market value, while rates for medium-sized suburbs tend to fall between $14 and $16 per $1,000 of property value -- Details, comparison of 1994 local property taxes for municipalities in York and Cumberland counties
