Abstract

Peter McCarron, food stamp director for the state Department of Human Services, yesterday announced a new policy that will allow some Mainers who receive food stamps to purchase meals in qualifying restaurants -- Under the new policy, recipients or their spouses must be 60 years or older or receive Supplemental Security Income or be homeless, and qualifying restaurants must offer a large selection of meals that cost $5 or less -- Am estimated 20,000 of the 63,000 households that now receive food stamps qualify for the restaurant program -- Details
