Nancy Perry analyzes the political situation in Maine following the announcement by US Senate Majority Leader George J Mitchell that he will not seek reelection in the fall -- US represenative Thomas H Andrews of the First District and Rep Olympia J Snowe are considered the front runners for Mitchell's seat -- Many of the state's congressional and gubernatorial candidates are expected to reassess their situations in light of Mitchell's decision
