Eighth-graders in Pownal have to decide between attending Freeport High School or Greely High School in Cumberland, and the number choosing Freeport has increased from 18 during the 1987-88 school year to 32 during the 1993-94 year -- Maine has 48 communities that give their students a choice of high schools, and Freeport's experience shows that schools with solid academic credentials can attract tuition-paying students from surrounding communities Details
