Abstract

A bill before the Legislature would allow communities to tax large apartment complexes after they are sold to nonprofits, but only at half their value State Reps Michael F Brennan and James V Oliver have amended the bill to exempt apartments with fewer than 9 units, a move that has angered Portland officials and other municipal officers in the state -- Some observers are questioning whether the lawmakers are using the amendments for their own ends, since they are both low-income housing advocates -- Details, related articles
