Abstract

The recent turmoil on Wall Street has created problems in the municipal bond market, meaning that dozens of cities, towns, counties and special districts across the state will pay higher interest rates on the bonds they issue. Portland plans to issue $15.7 million in bonds on Tuesday to help pay for renovations at the city's three middle schools and Hadlock Field, and the falling municipal bond market will result in the city paying an extra $785,000 to $942,000 over the next 20 years.
