Abstract

Stephen Robert Hamilton of Sanford recently went through a hassle when trying to purchase a .44 Magnum handgun at the Kittery Trading Post. The background search now required by the Brady law turned up a Stephen Richard Hamilton, a convicted felon in California, who has a similar birthday, a similar Social Security number, and similar tatooes. As a result, the Sanford man had to wait 25 days before being allowed to purchase his weapon, while police checked to ensure that the two Hamiltons are indeed different individuals.
