Abstract

The state Attorney General's Office has filed suit in Kennebec County Superior Court against Edwards Manufacturing Co., alleging that the company caused the death of 600,000 alewives when it lowered the water level at its Augusta dam in 1992. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last year said that the company must compensate the state for the dead fish and file a mitigation plan to prevent future fish kills.
