Abstract

The state Board of Environmental Protection this week voted unanimously to fine Bath Iron Works $40,750 for 32 environmental violations discovered in May 1993. Most of the violations were the result of administrative problems, but one involved the leaking of sulfuric acid from a battery. BIW, in addition to paying the fine, has agreed to comply with all state hazardous materials laws; immediately label all hazardous containers; train the employees who handle hazardous materials; and maintain daily inspection logs.
