Abstract

The Chamber of Commerce yesterday announced that after this year it will no longer sponsor the Deering Oaks Family Festival, the popular annual event that attracts around 200,000 people over six days in July. The chamber created the festival 13 years ago and has sponsored it since then, but now finds that it is outside of its mission of retaining and expanding businesses in Greater Portland. One possibility for replacing the festival would be an event on Commercial Street sponsored by Portland's Downtown District. Details.
