Abstract

A master plan for Portland's Deering Oaks park drafted by consultants and a 19-member citizen committee calls for spending $4.1 million for improvements over the next ten years or longer. A total of $2.4 million would be spent over the next five years to narrow roads, renovate the concession building, construct a pedestrian plaza, improve lighting and restore recreation facilities. City councilors were skeptical about the high costs of some of the improvements, and are expected to vote on the plan on May 9. Details.
