Abstract

Brief article about members of the Maine Army National Guard who were sent to Guatemala to help build schools and bridges as part of "Task Force Dirigo" but ended up helping to save the life of 52-year-old June Diane Weinstock of Fairbanks, Alaska, who was attacked on March 29 by some Guatemalans who believed she had abducted an 8-year-old boy. Weinstock suffered multiple stab wounds, skull fractures, a broken arm , and a broken leg. Maine guardsmen helped stabilize her condition and evacuated her by helicopter to Guatemala City.
