Abstract

Brief article about the defense budget bill approved by the Senate Armed Services Committee that includes several items that could benefit Maine. Among other things, the bill includes $2.6 billion tor the contruction of three Aegis destroyers at Bath Iron Works; $38.9 million for 2,400 MK-19 grenade machine guns manufactured at Saco Defense Inc.; and a provision that would allow the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and other public shipyards to undertake additional defense-related work not directly assigned the Navy.
