Abstract

Monday's festivities surrounding the home opener of the Portland Sea Dogs baseball team rekindled painful memories for baseball fanatics in Old Orchard Beach, which had a brief love affair in the 1980s with the Triple-A Maine Guides and its successor team the Maine Phillies. Baseball didn't survive in Old Orchard, and the town now has a $2.2 million baseball stadium and the debt that goes with it. Details, related article.
