Abstract

A study conducted by the Foundation for Blood Research in Scarborough and published today in the New England Journal of Medicine says a simple blood test can detect most Down's syndrome babies in older women. Pregnant women over 35 for years have undergone amniocentesis to detect for Down's syndrome, and the new blood test will protect the women who take them from the possibility that the amniocentesis will trigger a miscarriage.
