Abstract

A study performed by University of Southern Maine professor Josephine M LaPlante for the Legislature's Education Committee shows that reductions in school spending between 1989 and 1993 have done the most damage to budgets for books, equipment and supplies -- Overall per pupil spending was flat for the 1989-1993 period, while admistration cost rose 5 percent and employee benefit costs rose 18 percent -- Details
