The Maine Supreme Judicial Court yesterday denied the appeal of James Hart, 37, and wife Sandra Hart, 40, of Portland, who were convicted of illegally possessing heroin and hypodermic apparatus. The Harts claimed that their addiction to heroin caused them to act under duress, but the justices said that the Legislature clearly recognized the drug's addictive properties when it made possession a crime.
