Abstract

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court yesterday issued a unanimous decision upholding a lower court ruling to throw out a lawsuit challenging the ballot qualifications of Republican gubernatorial candidate Susan M. Collins. Conservative GOP activist Mark Finks had challenged Collins' candidacy based on her residency in Massachusetts for most of 1992 and 1993, claiming it violated the residency provision in the Maine Constitution. Superior Court justice G. Arthur Brennan in July dismissed the lawsuit, and Finks appealed on grounds that his rights were violated. Details.
