Abstract

Unum Corp. yesterday reported net income of $77.1 million during the first quarter of 1994, a 20.6 percent increase over the same period one year ago. One time charges during the first quarter of 1993 amounting to $21.6 million allowed the company to show a profit. Unum would have shown a nearly 10 percent decline in net income for the first quarter if those charges had not been allowed.
