Abstract

Michael Murray, the state's rail expert, said yesterday that under a best-case scenario passenger rail service between Portland and Boston will be operating in late 1994. A 13C agreement, which provides money to employees of other transportation companies hurt by the rail service, must be signed before work can begin. Colin Pease, executive vice owner of Guilford Transportation Industries Inc., which owns the track the passenger train will use, is less optimistic about the start-up date due to the amount of work needed to upgrade the tracks.
