Abstract

South Portland police chief Robert M. Schwartz has been suspended a week without pay for "deliberate harassment of and discrimination against" Det. Linda Barker because she was female. Disciplinary action was also taken against Deputy Chief Boyce A. Sanborn and Lt. Mark Clark because of their roles in the affair. The city has promised that changes will be made in the police department to prevent future discrimination. With an outline of the gender-bias remedies ordered by city officials.
