Abstract

South Portland police chief Robert Schwartz yesterday announced that Officer Kevin Battle will spend one day working at an animal shelter because of a June 25 incident in which a dog died in a car. Battle arrested the car's driver, Gladys Coyne of New Hampshire, but left the animal, Trapper, in the vehicle. The animal stayed in the car for more than 24 hours without food or water and was found dead the next day. Details.
