Abstract

A comparison of the salaries paid to employees of the Portland school system and to municipal employees in similar positions shows that the school system employees receive considerably more than their city counterparts. City Councilor Keri Lord brought the issue up at a meeting last week between city and school officials, and said the pay inequities are not acceptable. School superintendent Thomas K. Edwards said the comparisons are invalid because job descriptions for positions with similar titles can vary widely between the city and the school department. Details, comaprison of salaries.
