Abstract

Each year, L.L. Bean is courted by thousands of manufacturers who would like to market their goods through the company's catalogs. Many realize that inclusion in the catalog could double their sales volume overnight, plus give a company the status of being a supplier to L.L. Bean. Bean, which does $870 million annually in sales, is rather choosy about who it picks as suppliers, since part of its success has been based on the premise that its goods are of exceptional value.
