Abstract

The Bath City Council last night voted 7-0 to let voters decide on the city's agreement with Bath Iron Works to repay the shipbuilder $5.45 million in overpaid taxes over a five-year period. Under the agreement, the city would pay BIW $800,000 this year, $1 million in 1995 and 1996, $1.25 million in 1997 and $1.45 million in 1998. The settlement was funded with a city ordinance, and voters will consider the ordinance as a referendum on the June 14 primary election ballot. Details.
