Abstract

The Portland City Council's finance committee yesterday sent the proposed $55.6 million school budget to the council without a recommendation, refusing to endorse it. Committee members said the budget, which includes a $3.6 million increase over last year, is vague and doesn't include the details necessary to determine if it is a responsible budget. The committee praised the $107.2 million city budget, which includes a 4.5 percent increase but requires no tax increase. Details.
