Abstract
The Portland City Council's Community Development Committee voted 3-0 to recommend that the city council give Unum Corp. a $10 million tax incentive to help the company expand. Under the proposal, Portland would create a Tax Increment Financing district and allow Unum to keep 75 percent of the taxes generated by the company's new $36 million building. A public hearing is scheduled for August 15 on the plan, after which the full council will vote. Details.
