Abstract

Scarborough school officials have expressed interest in the possiblity of air conditioning the new $9.85 million middle school the town is about to construct. Such a plan, however, will have to fit within the existing school budget and will require approval from state Department of Education. In the past, the state has not funded cooling systems, but may now be willing to do so because of the prospects of extending the school year into the summer and the greater use of the schools by community members.
