Abstract

Charles Cavallaro, 36, of Portland, was killed yesterday afternoon on I-295, just before the Congress Street exit. He was struck in the southbound lane after he climbed up the embankment, jumped the guard rail, and attempted to dart across the highway. Cavallaro was pronounced dead at the scene. Raoul Richard, 50, of Lewiston was the driver of the car that killed him. Witnesses indicate that Richard was driving within the speed limit and had no time to react.
