Abstract

Charles Gregory, an Allied Health Sciences instructor at Southern Maine Technical College, is leading the move at the school to replace the dissection of cats with computer-simulated dissection. Technological advances, political pressures and changing educational goals are making the routine dissection of mammals a thing of the past in high school and college science laboratories across Maine. The University of Southern Maine has not used cats as dissection animals for the past decade, partly because of the cost and partly because of the concern of animal rights advocates. Details.
