Abstract

York Insurance Co. of Maine, which sells more personal lines of insurance than any other Maine-based company, is expecting sales growth of 10 percent annually now that it has converted from a mutual to a stock company. The 100-year-old company, with 36 employees, has around 55,000 policyholders who pay some $20 million in annual premiums, and is currently preparing to expand beyond the state. A $2 million investment by Firemark Advisors Inc. of Parsippany, N.Y., in 1992 nearly doubled the insurer's working capital, allowing it to go after more business. Details.
