Abstract

Joseph Dana, 13, of Indian Island, claims his rights were violated by federal customs officials who seized his eagle feather while he and other Indians were returning from New Brunswick. Dana was given the feather by an elder Indian, and says it was desecrated when the customs officials touched it. Roger Corbin, the customs official in charge of the Van Buren port of entry, said officials wanted to confirm the boy had a legal right to a feather of an endangered species.
