Abstract

The federal Environmental Protection Agency yesterday announced a program under which it will redouble efforts to identify hazardous pollution in New England's low-income and minority neighborhoods. Areas in Maine targeted for the program include Indian tribal lands and large low-income rural areas. The program will triple the number of environmental inspectors in some areas and provide $400,000 in grants to grassroots organizations in New England to teach about environmental hazards.
